Front Camera/ Back Camera

2015

video installation

Art Yard, frenchtown, NJ

“Front Camera/Back Camera” is a video installation that consists of two projected self portrait video of the artist, which are facing each other.  One video is shot by the artist’s front camera, and the other is through the back camera. Zarbaf on one side of the installation employs a self-portraiture video to explore the self-gaze that’s being practiced through personal device cameras in our contemporary visual culture. The back camera on the other side, represents the anonymous inspecting gaze of the outsider who receives this uninvited self-gazed imagery on their own monitor through virtual media. The confronting videos are conversing and exploring their gap.
